Hi. I am struggling with this. Pancakes. I mean the making of the batter is fine, but I battle to turn it over. I have thought of just leaving the pancake in the pan and putting on the lid to just let it cook through, but I don't know if it will work. Can anyone help with this? Please? None of my friends can seem to find a solusion to this problem of mine.

My dear Briony,
Yeah, pancakes are a pretty difficult dish to make. They are very delicate, I honestly don't make them very often because of that. Just letting them cook through wouldn't work, and you would end up with a burnt mess stuck to your pan. So I would recommend really greasing up your pan, and then picking it up with your spatula evry now and then, to see how well done it is on one side. Don't flip it over until it seems sturdy enough, then get your spatula so that it's as centered as possible, and just flip over. Also, try to make them as thick as you can, to add a little stability, and make sure it's well centered on the pan so that you have plenty of room. But yeah, no shame in screwing up a pancake, it definitely takes some practice and timing. Ok, good luck, hope this helps.

Do you have a Jorge Formen Grill? Don't laff, but this is a true thing. I make my pancakes on my Jorge Forman Grill. You just make your batter like normel, then you put your pancake batter on the grill and shut the led. Depending on how thick you've made em they shoyuld take like 3 4 minuts. Worning, they wont look like most pancakes, they'll flatten out and have the grill ridges on them, but it doesn't take away there wonderfull pancake flavor!
Happy cooking and don't nock the grill idea until you've tryed it!

That doesn't sound bad at all. If you add more batter to it, you could make some delicious waffles, lol.

Hi, you can buy a double sidded spatula that will allow you to grab the pan cakes and make them easier to flip. I hope this helps.
Blessings,
Angela

How to cook pancakes the easy way,

Mix your batter
Get a 1 cup mesureing cup.
Poor one ounce of oil in hot pan.
Scoop batter in to cup.
Poor in to hot and oils pan.
Cook for two minutes.
Flip and cook for one minute.

personal note,

After you get the hang of ding this and knowing what the pancake looks like from the top part before flipping than it makes it a lot easyir not to use a timer. However even then i get impationt and mess up alot.

My dad has told me, that you should wit three minutes for one side to cook, then turn the pancake over and time it again for three minutes. there's no sizzling, so you can't hear anything at all. That makes it a bit difficult, but with practice, you'll get the hang of it.

Lol. George Foreman grill eh? I never would have thought of that. I might try that sometime. I usually just time them. With a little practice, you can tell by feel with the spatula when it's ok to flip. Mine turn out pretty neat as long as I don't get them too big. a quarter cup of batter works good for me.

The deal with the grill...great idea!

Post 12 by Thom3of5 (Do the Doo.) on Wednesday, 27-May-2009 14:06:17

There use to be a thing that has a cooking surface on each side, so after a while you close it down, flip it and open it back up.

If anyone has some useable sight, flip the pancake after the bubble holes show up on the top

And to post seven, wouldn't it just be easier to use a different measuring cup? if you put something like pancake batter in to a container that has just had oil in it, the batter will stick.

for the foreman grill you use one big cup of batter and it makes this huge pancake. you can either spread it out evenly with your fingers by touching it lightly or with a light spatula then smash down the lid. you get one humongous bad ass pancake and it is great. oh yes, grease the grill well before you make them.

Post 15 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 11-Dec-2009 6:41:34

where do i get one of these grills? And are they easy to use? I love pancakes! But i havent been able to have them for ages as i dont feel confident with using the pan so i had to rely on some one else to make them. But if i can use one of these grills to make them that would b perfect!

Post 16 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Monday, 14-Dec-2009 11:48:02

you can get the foreman grill at any store like targ4et or walmart. i like the g5 foreman because it has several different trays you can swap out.

Post 20 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 11-Feb-2010 2:01:25

another thing you could use is a griddle...like a forman but with a flat surface on both sides...my mom is sighted and she makes her's with this....also waffle iron for good waffles

Post 21 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 11-Feb-2010 2:09:38

the pancake recipe...we just made it today...my husband makes them on the frying pan b.c he's sighted and I don't have a griddle at home yet I am going to give the forman grill a try now that I have read these posts.
2 cups of flour
2 eggs
2 and 3/4 cups milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 table spoons of melted butter
5 table spoons of sugar
1 and 1/2 table spoons of baking powder
1 tea spoon salt
optional:
cinnamon or lemon abstract to taste...can add some chopped bananas or chocolate chips for flavor...
makes very good fluffy pancakes

I can't stand the prepackaged pancake mix. It's probably the grossest, driest, most bland thing I've ever tasted. Of course, that's just my opinion. I've tried making pancakes using a real recipe where you actually have to put in the dry ingredients as well as the liquids, and, wel, it's a work in progress. Thanks for posting this topic. I need to get one of those grills now. Lol.

Post 23 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 11-Feb-2010 9:08:20

thanks for the recipe. Im going to try it out on my g5 grill. I agree about the mixes u can get though their really not all that.

Post 24 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Friday, 12-Feb-2010 0:41:32

yeah they're never as good as the home made ones...

Post 25 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 17-Feb-2010 8:13:05

i tryed to make pancakes again yesterday they were ok but they came out quite tough how do i make them come out all light and fluffy?

Post 26 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Wednesday, 17-Feb-2010 14:43:15

hmmm, good question, as I mentioned my husband cooks them for us everytime and they come out great

Post 27 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 17-Feb-2010 16:04:39

hmm i wonder y maybe it was where i didnt have a proper wisk to mix with or maybe its wheir i beat the batter with a fork instead of stering it together. I dont no if that could make a difference but thats all i can think of.

Post 28 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 1:22:23

yeah we always use a big spoon...I don't have a wisk either so that cant be it

Post 29 by Starcannon20 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 1:23:10

I can say that when u use butter to greeze the pan they come out much better than with oil

Post 30 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 4:23:23

yeh i usually use butter. Iall try stering the batter next time with a spoon next time and c if it makes a difference.

Post 31 by moonspun (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 8:15:32

You might have fried them in a pan that was too hot for too long. They only need 30 seconds to a minute on each side, so maybe that's the problem.

Post 32 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 9:31:24

yeh could have even been that i cooked them on five on my g5 forman grill which is the highest temp and did them for free mins then flipped them over for another min.

Post 33 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 13:08:58

Didn't know you could use the forman for that.

Post 34 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 13:19:51

Apparently you can, although I made some this weekend, home made ones, on just a regular skillet, and they came out fine, once I got the timing right, which took a few times.

Post 35 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 18-Feb-2010 15:29:19

I guess the main thing is to have one of those egg timers.

Post 36 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 19-Feb-2010 8:16:32

does anyone else use the g5 grill to make theirs? What temperture do u use?

so with the grill do u still have to flip them?
My roommates and I made pancakes the other day but we used the pan and actually I didn't make them cuz we were doing it before we all had to go to class and I've never made them independently before so my roommie did it and they were good. I wanna try w/ the grill though :) Yea george forman!

Post 39 by Sage Rose (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 26-Oct-2010 18:58:41

Homemade are always better, but if you use a mix, go with bisquick, it's better. I too haven't been able to make pancakes, they never turn out.

Post 40 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 14-Jan-2011 8:22:42

hi guys. Think i might have found another solution for making it easier to make pancakes. The jlm all american pancake maker. Not sure if anyones tried one out but its basically to non stick frying pans hindged together and u just preheat both sides like u would with a normal pan lightly grece both sides, add your batter, close the lid wait for a min turn the maker up side down and open the lid and u have a pancake cooked on both sides which u can just turn out on to a plate. Its also meant to b good for fried eggs and omlets. Ive red some reviews which r all good. Ive brought one on ebay so iall let u no how it goes.

Post 41 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Saturday, 15-Jan-2011 17:24:02

Thanks for the tip. I can get mine to turn out pretty good with the regular pan, usually, but I want them to turn out every time. haha. My problem is that the first one is almost always great, but with the second, third, and so on, it seems it's either cooked too much on the outside, or not cooked enough on the inside.

By the way, I always make home made. I never use the mix, because I personally think it's really dry, and not tasty at all.

Post 42 by suzy (Veteran Zoner) on Sunday, 16-Jan-2011 9:43:44

yeh me to i make mine home made to. Lol yeh hopefully the maker should help me alot as i dont seem to b able to do mine with the normal pan i have to use my g5 grill.
